As a teacher that wants to grow in my abilities to teach and communicate with my students through technology, blogging sounds like a great communication tool for my students and I. I really love the idea of students being able to collaborate with one another on topics in the classroom. Students could respond to prompts, and look forward to reading comments from other peers.
After researching several blogging platforms, I liked Weebly as a blogging tool the most. I liked that it was user frinedly, and seemed very safe for my students to use. As a first grade teacher, having my students use programs that are easy-to-use and easy to access is important. I liked the idea that my students could access Weebly through special student accounts created by me. I also liked the Weebly website as a whole. I feel students would benefit from having a Weebly account to create pages as well as blogging. I think blogging would be a great experience for my first graders to use technology, as they grow up in a world that is technology driven.
Positive Aspects of Blogging with Weebly
-The website is very user friendly for students to write blogs and can be used on multiple electronic devices.
-Students have access to creating a website, in which they can show their personality and interests along with Blogging on Weebly.
-All 24 of my students can participate on this website at no cost with a student account.
Negative Aspects of Blogging
-Although I love Weebly, I worry about having the time for my students to blog and respond to their peers without knowing if my students have access to the internet outside of school.
- I also worry about keeping the conversation engaging. I fear that students may not fully participate in discussions, or may have minimal comments on peers blogs.
