Module 9
Twitter VoiceThread
|
I could use VoiceThread with my first graders in many ways. One fun way I could use VoiceThread with my students is as a sharing activity. I could make a VoiceThread on favorite traditions we share with our families. I would create pages about different cultural holidays, and students would comment on some of them, and tell how they celebrate these traditions with their families. This would be a great cultural diverse lesson in which students could hear about different traditions and learn more about their peers.
I could also use VoiceThread with an ebook, and students could comment throughout the ebook about favorite parts, thoughts, story elements, etc... VoiceThread could also be great to use for interactive PLCs and staff meetings. My team and I could create a VoiceThread about a topic we are teaching in class. Other teachers could comment on this VoiceThread with ideas or resources about this topic. It could be a very fun and interactive way to communicate with colleagues on educational topics! |
Twitter in the Classroom
My First Tweet...
- .I would use Twitter in my classroom as a communication and resource tool.. I am a first grade teacher, so I feel that there would be many challenges for my students to access and effectively use the Twitter tool. However, I feel it would be a great way for me to communicate to parents. By having the Twitter connection with my parents, I could tweet upcoming events, important project and learning examples, and I could give them informational links so that they understand concepts and topics we participate in, in the classroom. This media tool gives my parents access from anywhere with the internet such as their work computers, home computers, smart phones, and IPADS. This access to my tweets and Twitter profile also gives parents the ability to quickly ask questions or communicate with me without emailing or waiting for a note response via student agenda. The information shared on Twitter could easily be communicated to students, even though they do not have direct access to a Twitter account.
- I am a first grade teacher, so coming in contact with any of my students with Twitter accounts would be rare. However, I feel Twitter is not a popular site for students in older grades to use either. Many young learners use social media as a fun way to communicate with friends and stay informed on pop culture topics and figures they are interested in. Students are often following people they care about on Instagram and Vine. I do feel like popularity with social media sites often shifts with younger users.
Module 10
OneNote
In my W506 class, One Note was used to present information on a chosen social media site. These social media sites were explored on how they could be used in a classroom with a group of students. Each member studied one site and posted 5 pros of the website/tool, 5 cons to the website/tool, and 5 resources to help with the website/tool.
This activity was very helpful as an educator because each member in the class presented a different social networking tool. I learned a lot about a lot of different tools to use in my classroom. I chose to explore Edmodo for my social networking site. I found some really important information on this website, and I got to share it with my class members, and they got to do the same with the tool they studied, So with all of the information presented on our class OneNote page, I can explore enough about many sites to choose the best one for my classroom.
I loved the OneNote tool. I think I could use this in my classroom for students to apply knowledge to certain things we are studying in the classroom. I would use OneNote as a way for students to present information. For example, My students love learning about different types of animals. Each student could teach about one type of animal on their own slide. They could teach characteristics, eating habits, habitat, species, etc... about their chosen animal. By the time all 23 students presented about their own animal, there would be a lot of information on our class OneNote discussion for students to learn about many animals,
There are many topics that my students could present information about. This tool gives students a well-rounded amount of information they can read and add to, and with their peers creating it, it is age appropriate information as well.

Module 11: Video Conferencing
5 ways I can use Video Conferencing in my Classroom
- Distance Learning- Learning with international peers
- Connecting Classrooms with other schools
- Guest Lecturers or Speakers
- Virtual Fieldtrips
- Labs/Demos
Mystery Skype
There are so many resources about Mystery Skypes. Mystery Skypes give classrooms the ability to connect with another classroom, anywhere. One very helpful resource I found told me what Mystery Skyping was, the benefits of Mystery Skyping, and how to get started. This was from a teacher that actively Mystery Skypes in his classroom.

I would love to use Mystery Skype in my classroom. I love the idea of my students getting to communicate and learn from their peers in other schools around the country or world. The resource I found above had many benefits to participating in Mystery Skype. I as a teacher have goals to make my classroom more diverse, and I think having my students communicate with their peers on grade level content would help them with speaking and listening skills, as well as help them have a stringer grasp on other cultures. I also love the idea of communicating with other educators globally as my students are with their students, I think it would be such a great learning experience for all involved!
I plan on doing this in my classroom. I think one great way to get started would be to go to this site to find teaching partners through Mystery Skype: https://education.skype.com/mysteryskype .Once I have found a partner, I would get to know them through conversation and questions. Then with my partner, we could communicate on what topics we want our sessions to cover with our students, and how we want to structure these sessions.
Author Hangout
While reading about Author Hangout, I learned about how best-selling authors are interviewed about aspects that made them successful I found a great resource about Author Hangout, and the interview episodes are described and are linked from this page.

After reviewing the site for Author Hangout, I decided I would use this tool to guide my writing lessons. I think it would be great to listen to the authors that are relevant to my first graders, but I do not think they would be interested in the interviews about marketing. However, I think this could help me to teach about making my students writing more interesting,
A way to get started on this site would be for me to listen to the podcasts that would benefit my students. I will listen to those that would help me to teach lessons to improve writing skills in my classroom. I will also look for authors that my students are interested in.
