Module 15-Technology Needs Assessment Via Google Form
5 Ways to Use Google Forms in the Classroom
1. Interactive surveys to use with classroom.
2. Student Self-Assessments
3. Interactive Assessment Making- (Each student could create a question for an upcoming assessment).
4. Parent surveys/feedback on classroom information, lessons, structure,etc...
5. Getting to know you forms- Interest inventories (students complete these so that teacher can know about interests, learning styles, and other additional student information)

While looking at the responses of the Technology Needs Assessment, I learned that my school really does need a lot of professional development on modern tech tools and technology ideas. When I looked at the first question about flipped classrooms, blended learning, and SAMR only one teacher had used all three of these types of instruction in their classroom. I also noticed from the feedback that teachers really want to learn more about finding resources to use on their SmartBoards and IPADS. I also think it would be beneficial for the teachers that I work with to find out what all is out there, for example: Google Forms, Google Docs, Podcasts, and other tech tools that would technologically change the way they deliver instruction in the classroom.
As an instructional technology teacher in my school I plan to teach and present several kinds of professional development so that the teachers in my building will be aware, comfortable, and willing to use new tech tools in their classrooms to engage their students. One way I plan on reaching the staff with PD, is talking with my principal so that we can devote a staff meeting each month to learning about tech tools and other technology to use in the classroom.
Another plan that I have for professional development is to have some time taken from distruct gold days to have technology people from the board come out and teach the staff about programs, tech tools, lessons,etc... that can be used on the SmartBoards and IPADS. The students in our school get flooded with paper pencil work due to testing and test prep. I want teachers to see that students would be much more engaged in lessons with a new form of instruction.
As I looked at the assessment response details I noticed that the teachers find it difficult to find time to reseach new tech tools and technology resources. I will start a Tech Tuesday club with teachers where we will spend an hour after school going over technology resources that are out there. This will include things such as video conferencing, info about SAMR model, info about Blended learning and flipped classroom models, etc... These information sessions will inform teachers on these programs, teach them how to use them, and I will discuss with them, why they are helpful for students.
Student Impact Plan
The purpose of this Student Impact Plan is for teachers to be held accountable to take learned technology knowledge from professional development sessions and use it in the classroom to help student learning. A lot of teachers in my building are very interested in learning about new technology programs and resources, but often do not take the time to implement them in the classroom. These PD sessions are being taught so that students are more actively engaged in learning, and therefore learning in a new way. I think this plan will help teachers feel the urgency of implementing the sessions in the classroom, but it will also give them a voice to provide feedback and decide if these things are impacting student learning in a positive way.
I think in order to create a student impact plan the faculty in my school need to sit down and really consider what we need tech tools and technology programs for. We need to see what areas need growth, and what programs are rated with positive feedback to implement these areas. Often PDs should reflect these areas. Administrators should be stakeholders in the planning process for an impact plan for students. They should help with next steps as well with the PD and classroom implementation. Administrators should be sure that teachers are actively engaged in PD time so that they are able to use these things learned in their classrooms. I also think that administrators need to be sure that teachers are using the things that they are learning in the PD time in the classroom. One way for administrators to do this is to help teachers plan how to implement these things in class during PLC times. Administrators can also walk through classes to be sure that these things are being implemented or at least tried. I feel that it is crucial that teachers give feedback on the things they are using and trying in the classroom from the PD sessions as well. They should give feedback on how students were engaged, and how effective it was for student learning.
