YouTube is a resource I use a lot in my classroom for educational videos to show you all, my students. As a teacher showing these videos, it is very important that I understand how to safely show these videos, and how to use them effectively in my classroom. While discovering different sites for YouTube safety, I came across two specific sites that I feel would be very helpful for me to tweek the videos I show in class- QuietYouTube and TubeChop.
Quiet YouTube
Often times when I am showing videos in class, we are waisting time listening to the ads that must play before the video itself. That often gets us off task, and we never know what ad we are going to see. I found a way to just show the video, without seeing the ads or the distracting youtube page that it plays from. There can also commenly be inapporpriate comments on certain videos that I cannot hide. http://www.quietyoutube.com/ lets you take a YouTube link and put the word quiet in from of youtube.com. When doing this, the link takes you to another page that only plays the video. Now we can watch videos we intend to watch without the annoying ads or worrying about getting distracted by everything else on the YouTube page. The video doesn't start automatically on the new page, you have to press play. This gives us the ability to watch what we wanted, when we wanted to. If you want to do the same while watching YouTube vidoes, go to http://www.quietyoutube.com/.
TubeChop
Sometimes in class I want to show only parts of videos. Some educational videos are very long, and only parts of them cover what we are supposed to cover in class. I found a new tool that will let me chop a YouTube video to play only the part(s) of the video I want to play. This now keeps us from watching too much of a video, and lets me show what I think is interesting, on point, or even entertaining, and share it with you. I think finding this website will help me to keep you better engaged in the videos we watch in class. If you want to chop YouTube videos it is easy, just visit. http://www.tubechop.com/ .
