.
Over the last few weeks, we have been discussing various ways of safely using the internet. We have discussed how to be good digital citizens, as well as how to find and edit appropriate videos to use for class.
You all have began writing informational pieces in class, where you teach facts that you have learned about particular animals, people, and things. As we continue to write informational pieces, I want you to also be aware that you can find and learn useful information in other places other than the books and magazines we use in class. You can also very quickly and effectively find information on writing topics on the internet as well.
Today I am going to teach you about a search engine called Yahoo, With us using Yahoo in the classroom, I want to be sure that when you are searching for information, that you are only seeing the appropriate information needed. It is very important that you do not see inapporpriate information, harmful or explicit content, or content that is too mature and/or not related to the information you are searching for. To do this I am going to use a program called SafeSearch. The video below will show you how I am going to use SafeSearch so that you are effectively and safely searching the internet through Yahoo.
For you to effectively use Yahoo, you will type in the browser https://www.yahoo.com/. You will click the sign in option in the top, right corner, next to the bell and and envelope symbols. Then you will sign in to your account. In order for us to safely search, I want you to make sure you log-in so that you are searching with SafeSearch. I will already have the mode turned on for you. When you are signed in, type in your topic in the blue rectangular search box at the top, and click search web. Now you can effectively and safely search the web on the topics you are choosing to research. This also helps me feel happy knowing that you are seeing content that is helping you learn, not content that is too mature or harmful! I am so excited to see the information you learn as you write your pieces!
